How one 2-minute video turned into over €100K of business

A business coach in Ireland played a single customer story at his networking group. Here’s what happened next – and why it worked.

Lee is a business coach in Ireland. He’s been running businesses since he was 12 – he’s in his 60s now. He has never had trouble getting clients. But the sales process was still exhausting: long discovery calls, follow-ups, prospects who needed weeks to decide.

Twenty minutes of conversation

Tommi interviewed one of Lee’s customers for about twenty minutes and edited the conversation into a short video. No script, no prompts – just the customer talking about where they’d been and where they ended up.

The networking group

At his next local networking meeting, Lee did something unusual. Instead of standing up and talking about himself, he played the video.

Halfway through, a man in the audience messaged him: “I need to talk to you.”

A three-minute sales call

They chatted afterwards. The conversation lasted three minutes. The man had seen himself in the customer’s story – same problems, same frustrations. He asked the price and signed up on the spot.

No discovery call. No follow-up sequence. No objection handling. The video had already done all of it.

Then the referrals started

That new client referred someone. Who referred someone else. Who referred someone else again. All told, the chain that started with one short video resulted in over €100K of business.

A client who wouldn’t wait

It didn’t stop there. Later, a prospect who had watched one of Lee’s testimonial videos – with no nudging from him – took out a loan to join his programme. She later came back to film a testimonial of her own.

“The clients I get through those testimonials are different. They want to move, and they want to move as quick as they can.”

Why it worked

  • Recognition beat persuasion. The man in the audience didn’t need convincing. He recognised his own situation in someone else’s story.
  • The proof arrived before the pitch. By the time they spoke, the hard part – trusting a stranger – was already done.
  • The video travelled. A story is easy to pass on. Referrals came with the trust already built in.
  • It was genuine. An unscripted customer, interviewed by a neutral third party, is very hard to dismiss.

Lee called it the single most effective sales asset he has ever had.
